Embodied Mental Health
More than just ‘talking it out’ with someone.
Mind, body, and spirit.
What does that mean for us as Christians? God designed us to be whole, so when it comes to mental health support, we need to address all these parts.
But how?
Traditional talk therapy, while helpful, may miss the opportunity for deeper healing and connection. In our sessions, we have the chance to get out of our busy minds and a little more into our bodies and emotions.
Mindfulness and prayerful intention allows for greater opportunity to give God our hurt parts - in the moment, raw, and powerful. (See the FAQs)
My combination of training - traditional counseling/talk therapy, mindfulness therapy, somatic (body) psychotherapy, and Catholic theology - provides a unique experience of support during those times in life when we need a little more than just ‘talking it out.’
There’s no need to be alone in our struggles.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Absolutely! While I am most informed on Catholic theology and offer that perspective to my Catholic clients, our sessions are always centered around you, your faith and relationship with God. Our early sessions will be spent getting to know what this means for you!

No two sessions are the same. No two clients are the same. We co-create sessions based on your faith, comfort, and goals. This can be:
Talking through a specific challenge you’re facing
Imaginative prayer, where we invite God into the session and visualize Him helping us in some way (e.g. working through a traumatic experience or creating space for novel solutions to difficult situations in our life).
Christ-focused mindfulness - slowing down (shifting focus from talking to how we feel in the present moment), paying attention to our physical sensations and emotions, how they show up in the body, all while asking God for guidance and wisdom.
Relaxation techniques for stress, tension, or anxiety
Practical skill building for mental health, relationships, life changes/goals, etc.

Mindfulness and mind-body awareness/connection are similar. Both involve intentional focus, usually on becoming aware of thoughts, emotions, or physical sensations. Mindfulness can be done briefly throughout the day while on-the-go or during set-aside moments of stillness (like a morning routine or scheduled coaching session).
Over time, mindfulness enhances awareness of our thoughts, emotions, and body. It literally builds and strengthens neuron connections, making us understand and interpret our body better! The stronger your “mind-body connection,” the faster you will recognize changes in yourself and the better equipped you will be to respond to what you need.
This is very helpful for increasing emotional tolerance, i.e. lowering stress, anxiety, depression, and other uncomfortable emotions. We become better at caring for the body that God gave us!
